My Fan Fiction Valentine Story of SRP & ME… 29 January 2003

August 2002

I was singing along with the song ‘She’s Mine’ from Steve’s ‘Street Talk’ album, changing all the ‘she’s’ to ‘he’s’ as I sang while hanging up more of his clothes in the extra closet space next to mine. Then I heard the phone ringing, but before I could reach the extension on the nightstand in ‘our’ bedroom, I heard my son calling out to me from downstairs.

“Hey moooooommmmmm! Steve’s on the line…agaaaiiinnn.”

My smile broadened even more as I rolled my eyes skyward at the words of my teenaged son, then I picked up the extension and said hello.

“Hey honey,” he replied softly. “You two getting everything settled in ok?”

“Yes. We’ve got most of the stuff done. I just have a few more small boxes to go through.”

“CJ picked out his room?”

“Of course,” I answered. “He chose the one downstairs so that he could be near the game room.”

Steve chuckled, “Sounds like a teenager’s way of thinking.”

“You know, you keep spoiling him and he’ll get a swelled head.”

I could feel his smile clear across the ocean then he said, “Maybe. I just wish I could be there to help a little.” “Yeah? You think we would actually get anything done?” I teased.

“Maybe,” he laughed again. “Then…maybe not.”

“Steve…”

“You’re blushing Cheyenne,” he stated. “Just wait till I return home…I’ll bet I could make you blush more.”

“Steven!”

He was still laughing then he said, “Got to go love, Peter’s motioning for me. I’ll try to catch the early bird flight in a couple of days, ok?”

“Ok,” I replied with a sigh. “I love you Steven.”

“Love you too babe.”

“CJ come on, you’re going to be late for school,” I said as I knocked on his bedroom door. “Be out in ten minutes.” Then I ‘d head back to the kitchen to finish fixing breakfast. As I passed by the family room, I would smile. Steve was at the piano again. Then I’d fix him a cup of Earl Grey tea and take it to him.

“Thanks sweetheart,” he replied with a smile as he took the cup from me, set it on the piano then gently pulled me into his arms. “I’m so glad I met you,” he whispered before nibbling on my neck.

“Ste-ven, stop that. I have to leave for work soon and…”

“Geesh guys,” CJ interrupted with a roll of his eyes as he entered the room.

“Sorry CJ,” Steve apologized half-heartedly. “I just can’t help myself when it comes to your mom’s neck.”

My son’s eyes rolled again then he said, “You know mom, I could take the bus.”

“No,” I answered as I gently swatted Steve’s hand away from my thigh. “I’ve got to go into work today. So I’ll take you to school.”

Then I’d give Steve a quick kiss, hurry to the kitchen to grab my thermos of tea and rush out the door before my mind had a chance to think about skipping work and staying home with the man I loved. ( ( ( ( ( ( ( ( ( ( ( ( ( ( ( ( ( ( ( ( (

Steve had a pencil clamped between his teeth while his fingers tapped out a few notes to the new song he was working on. He had another pencil tucked behind his ear and several others laying on the piano. As he sat there working, his fingers suddenly paused over the keys. Then he smiled and as he did, the pencil fell from his lips and clattered to the tile floor. His thoughts turned toward the one woman who had made his heart whole again. Then he walked over to the phone and called LA.

“Hey Jon, what’s new in LA?” he asked when his old friend answered his phone.

Jon laughed before saying, “Not much since the last time you called…which, by the way, was only fifteen minutes ago.”

“Yeah? Only fifteen minutes?”

“You sure got it bad this time. And don’t ask what, ‘cause you know I’m speaking about your ladylove.”

“Give the man a cupie doll,” Steve laughed then he said, “Jon…I’m going to ask her to marry me.”

“Really? When?”

“Valentine’s Day.”

“Are you sure this time? I mean…”

Steve sighed then said, “I’m positive. This is the real deal Jon. It goes beyond what I had before…this goes soul deep.”

“Wow…you’re right. You never mentioned anything like that before. Where’d you meet this lady?”

“I didn’t tell you?”

“Not that I recall.”

“Ok,” he paused a moment then continued. “Remember when I came to the Islands for a vacation several years ago?”

“Yeah.”

“Well, I had gone to a Boarders book store, just to get out and about…and there she was. She was sitting at one of the tables in the coffee shop section, her fingers practically flying across the keyboard of her laptop and her eyebrow quirking upwards every so often. It was so out of the ordinary that I couldn’t help myself from watching her. Then she glanced up and stared straight at me.”

“Aaannnnndd?”

Steve chuckled before continuing.

“Anyway, I walked over to where she sat and introduced myself. She just arched that lovely brow of hers higher. Then she said ‘Nice to meet you sir’ then focused her green eyes on the computer screen again. Can you believe she called me ‘sir’? Well I asked her if she didn’t mind if I sat with her and…”

“She looked at you with her brow arched again,” Jon finished for him.

“Yep,” Steve laughed. “I asked her how she did it, but she just smiled, shrugged her shoulders and motioned for me to go ahead and sit down. God Jon, I truly do love this woman. How about you being my best man at our wedding?”

“For you Steve? Of course.”

They talked for several more minutes then said good-by. After Steve hung up the phone, he went back to the piano to finish working on the song he had started several days before.

Valentines Day 2003

“Thank God it’s Friday,” I thought as I let myself into the house after another long day at work. I reached for the light switch to turn the foyer light on, but it didn’t work. So, with a sigh, I headed toward the kitchen. As I passed the archway to the family room, I stopped suddenly and stared.

The room shimmered with the glow of rose scented candles and standing in the middle, was the best looking man I’d ever laid eyes on. In his arms was a huge bouquet of multi-colored roses and standing on either side of him was my son and some of our closest friends. Then he slowly walked toward me, handed me the flowers and carefully got down on one knee.

My eyes blurred with tears as he gently took my hand into his and said, “Cheyenne…we’ve been together for several years now and I’d like to make our relationship permanent. Would you make this man the happiest person in the world by becoming my wife?”

The tears fell as I glanced from Steve’s hazel-brown eyes to the people who stood quietly by, waiting for my answer. Then I gazed back to the gentle face of the man I loved and gracefully sank to my own knees.

“I…yes,” I cried. “Anytime…anywhere…I’ll be forever yours.”

“Faithfully,” he added before embracing me, roses and all, and sealing the promise with a heated kiss.
