Your stories of how and why you came to love Steve or Journey.
If you have a story you'd like to tell, email us and we will be happy to add it for you.
It's 1981. I'm 12 years old and I'm sneaking into my sister's bedroom, again.
I look everywhere to find the only thing that ever meant to
me at that time, her "Escape" tape. That album was the first time I heard a
voice that caught my attention. Not everybody can literally grab you by the
collar and say, "Listen to what I have to say." But this one particularly
"Voice" did just that. I was hooked from then on.

When I started to go crazy for Steves voice and started to look Journey on the
internet and bought more of their cds. Now they are all I talk about. They were
the first soulful rock band I listend to.

I first heard Steve/Journey in 1978. It was the song "Lights". I was 12 at the
time and starting to get into music. I was listening to the radio when this
song came on. I heard this voice and it just took hold of my soul and made it
dance around until the song was over. The DJ did not say who it was who sung
that song he just played another song. A few days later I heard that song again
and this time was going to find out who it was. Once again that song took hold
of me like no other song ever did. When the song was over the DJ said that was
Journey with lead singer Steve Perry. From then on I was hooked not only on the
music but the voice of the most beautiful singer I had heard but when I saw what
Steve looked like well to say the least that is a different story all in it
self. Steve Perry will always be the singer of the song that set my soul free.
......So That's my story. Pat Brightly
They say that when a child approaches their teen years, he/she takes on their
own personality. Well by the time I was 12 and in the 7th grade, Journey became
a part of me. By the time I got into high school, it was Steve's voice that
gave me the mental strength to face each day of school. Journey/Steve have had
such a profound effect on me that it's hard to discribe. In a special way,
Steve gave me that encouragement to go on to college. I did and I majored on
Music Industry Communications. Though I'm currently not employed in the music
field, one day I hope to be and it's my dream to have the oppertunity to work
with the man that has been such an influence to. Steve - I Love You!!
It was 1979 and it was my last year of high School and I spent every weekend at
my Uncle's house,we spent our weekends tacking V.W. Bug car engine's apart and
he was teaching me how to fix a car.
My uncle always played records when we were fixing car's. I heard this
record, called Journey's Grestest Hits, and asked my uncle who this was,and he
told me Journey, then he showed me the album cover and I saw Steve Perry Lead
Singer. and have been hooked ever since and have never stopped loving this
man and hope to meet him some day.

Steve Perry has given my life so much pleasure and pain. Have you ever heard
the expression that it hurts so bad, that is feels good? If you have not,
Perry is the man to take you to that plateau. He has been there in my darkest
and brightest moments. I have never met him/seen him on tour or any fashion. I
have always held him in my mind and heart. He has torn me apart, and put be
back together. His vocals ooooh just seem to get inside me and become a
part of my being. Steve has made magic happen in my life and gave my soul a
fire that only HE can fan.
Obsession, yes, but desperation on my part caused this turmoil. Hey didn't
some one say that desperation is the quickest way to to success? LOL I
cannot help it. His voice and mannerism has taken up permanent residance in my
life. As meager as this may sound to you, it is a HUGE part of my goals, and
from what I see on the internet, Perry is a major part of many dreams, with
that in mind, I do not feel soooo foolish. He keeps the youth/innocance, in my
heart strong. I am 38 and feel well over that, but when it comes to "Perry", I
feel I can conquer the World. Perry will be heard from again !!! I just know
it. In one fashion or another, we will all have that blessing. Good things
come to those who wait. He has a life, and no matter how many times I hear
"leave him alone", I will still keep the Faith and knocking on that door.
Persistance will eventually pay off.
May Steve find his self and what makes him happy, and we all know that
vocalizing is his forte'. Rules, laws and contracts make it hard for him, but
HE will find a way to reach us......

Well, it started in 1978 when I ordered the Album Infinity thru the record club
that was O so popular then. LOL Omg, hooked from the second I played it. From
there I went to 6 Journey concerts over the next 6 years, I remember the first
concert, the lights yellow and orange flashing slowly to the last concert
explosions, big screans and smoke, wow! There were times, a lot of times, we
would sit up me and my best friend glued to Don Kershner's Rock Concert at
midnight Journey would be on and we would sit there screaming and drooling and
just plain old be beside ourselves..... What a frinzy we would be in. OH the
good ol'e days... I have ticket stubs and concert booklets acked away, can't wait to see em again......
Journey will forever be a part of me....The memories of a wonderful time!
Thanx you guys, Debi
Well, when I was about 9 1/2 years old, my dad and my family all went to the
mall in Eureka. That took about 2 hours to get there from Crescent City (where I
used to live). I was so happy because I was told that we could each get a
toy...what ever we wanted if it was at a resonable price...in other words,
nothing over 25 bucks....lol
I took too long to make up my mind, so my dad said that he would not wait any
longer and got my sister her toy and got me nothing! I was so mad at him that I
couldn't even look at him! I wanted a barbie soooooooooo bad!!!
We walked by the Sam Goody store, and I ask my dad why we were going in there.
He said to get a CD...I was in love with the Backstreet Boys at the time, so I
begged him for a cd. The one I wanted was basically a new release, just a few
weeks old, so they were too expensive. So he bought Journey's Greatest Hits. On
our way home he played The album, and I thought to myself "OMG! this totally
kicks butt! It is WAY better then that crappy teeny-bopper boy-band crap that I
am obsessed with!!!" But in my mind it is hard to let go of my obsessions, so
until about 2000, I still told everyone that I loved BSB. My dad got Greatest
Hits in about mid 1999, so for about half a year I went on lying to myself and
everyone else....But there were times where I would steal GH from my pops and
turn it up REALLY LOUD when no one was home!!! I can remember myself listening
to "I'll be alright without you", "Send her my love", "Be good to yourself",
"Who's cryin now", and every other song on their CD!
Ever since, I have been a total Perry-head! But actually, I have really been
listening to Journey since I was 6-7...my dad only had INFINTY , so I wanted more of that voice, but at that time (like I said) I was way
more interested in my barbies then music......but I can still remember how my
dad and I used to sit in front of the record player and listen to
INFINTY.....awe, those were the days!!! That was around 1994-1996......

Hi, I'm Maureen. I was 14, freshman in highschool, hanging with the juniors.
They introduced me to the local AOR station. That's when I first heard Journey.
First I heard "Wheel in the Sky", then the radio station always played "Feeling
That Way/Anytime" together. I just really liked the songs, very melodic. So,
one day I borrowed "Infinity" from the Library. "Patiently" & "Winds of March"
moved me to tears and I fell in love with Steve's Voice. I think he left his
mark on my heart. I've been hopelessly devoted ever since.
The first time I finally had the opportunity to see Journey in concert was the
Fontiers tour. That infamous show that Herbie claims was the beginning of the
end. In '86 "Raised on Radio" was released on my birthday, couldn't ask for a
better present, huh?
Steve has had a powerful influence on me my whole life. There were times when
his voice would be the only thing that would reach me when no one else could.
I finally met Steve during the FTLOSM tour. It was quite unexpected and I wasn't
prepared. I spoke to him briefly but never got to tell him how important he was.
I was too nervous I guess, or was it that my girlfriend wouldn't let me.
I was also 6 months pregnant at the time, looking pretty round in the front. My
poor son was forced to listen to Steve Perry for 9 months and then some. But you
could say it paid off. When he was an infant, hearing Steve had a way of
soothing him when he was upset. Now my son will be 7 soon. He loves music and
loves to sing. He has his favorites from some of the Journey albums and Steve's
solo stuff. Lately he's been asking me to play "Somethin' to Hide". He'll sing
along with words that sound similar to what they are supposed to be and he tries
to imitate Steve. It's so cute! He tries to sing just like him, holding the
long notes and staying within the same octave. My husband and I find it
amusing. One of these days I'll have to video tape him when we play "Strung
out". My son will grab a broom and use it for either a microphone or a guitar,
singing and dancing to Steve. LOL
